2010 Great Mid Winter Half Marathon Race Report
On Sunday the 4th July the club held the running of the 14th Great Mid-Winter Half Marathon run and walk as well as the Norske Skog 11k fun-Run and walk around the streets and parks of Kawerau. With circumstances beyond the clubs control a new start position and finish area had to be found after the fire at Pinelands Hotel our major sponsor.

The club moved fairly quickly to base the event at Prideaux Park with the help of the Kawerau District Council as well as the prizgivng at the Rec centre. With a new start area and finish. It made the town more accessible to the competitors with the town pools and car parking being side by side.
Conditions for the runners and walker were great with it being cool and no wind of any sorts which meant everybody was catered for. Numbers of around 250 were arrived to compete in the three events.
The Half Marathon walk had over 50 people evolved with the fastest Female walker being Dianne Mannington in a time of 2hr:32:58 while the fastest man being John McMillan whose time was 2hr:34:43 this was a great effort over the two laps.

The Norske Skog 11k Fun run walk had Hamish Hammonds first home in a time of 41:23 with Toni Wells the first female finishing in 54:59.
The Pinelands Great Mid Winter Half Marathon had competitors from all around New Zealand and parts of the world competing
Our Local international student home from University Daniel Jones put paid to any competition in the first k with a solo run that dominated the field in a time of 71:58.The next runner was also local with Onepu runner Sam Clark finishing in a time of 78:57 the only other runner under the 80 minute mark.
The first woman runner to finish was Tauranga’s Jessica Lawson her time of 88:30 was well over the female’s record but a great effort
The next competitive group was three runners of Colin String fellow, Colin Dittmer and Dean Sisson who came in within two minutes of each other.
Lisa Daniels of Whakatane, Meagan Arther of Hamilton and Dianne Bulled also had good competitive runs on the day as well as Whakatane runner Neil Spanake. Monty McComb of Kawerau as well as Samantha Titze of Taneatua were other locals who had high placings in there age groups.
